The world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles, no matter how long, but only by a spiritual journey, a journey of one inch, very arduous and humbling and joyful, by which we arrive at the ground at our feet, and learn to be at home.
--Wendell Berry (b.1934) American author.
The Frank Kennicott cabin was built in 1869 outside of Westcliffe, CO. Kennicott was among the earliest settlers to the Wet Mountain Valley, arriving from Illinois. He lived in the valley for forty years, dying in 1914 at the age of 71. This two story cabin was placed on the national registry of historical places in 1997. More information and photos here.
