Lake Pueblo

Lake Pueblo (a.k.a. Pueblo Reservoir) was created when the dam west of Pueblo on the Arkansas River was completed in 1975. It is part of the Bureau of Reclamation's Fryingpan-Arkansas Project to provide water for municipal, industrial and agriculture use as well as flood control for southeastern Colorado. With 4,600 acres of surface water and 60 miles of shoreline, the lake is also a magnet for outdoor enthusiasts with two marinas and 400 campsites. In addition to boating and camping, the park also provides visitors with opportunities for fishing, biking, hiking and picnicking. The official Lake Pueblo State Park website is fantastic and up-to-date, with many pages of descriptions, maps and schedules.

As you can see, the day we visited a storm was kicking up sand in the west, producing a warm shade of light over the lake. [click photos to enlarge]. More photos here.
